「味甘温。主咳逆上气,温疟寒热洗洗在皮肤中,妇人漏下绝子,诸恶疮疡金创,煮饮之。」
Sweet in flavor, warm. It treats cough with qi rushing upward, warm malaria with chills and fever washing over the skin, in women leaking discharge and loss of fertility, all malign sores, ulcers and wounds from metal — boil it and drink.
RootBro's note — Danggui is the number-one gynecological herb; 'regulate the menses, relieve pain' covers nearly every deficiency pattern in gynecology. In Danggui Sini Tang, danggui nourishes the blood and warms the channels while guizhi warms and unblocks the vessels — aimed squarely at 'cold hands and feet, a pulse so thin it is about to vanish,' the picture of blood deficiency with cold congealing.

Key constituents Z-ligustilide and ferulic acid: the first relaxes smooth muscle (spasm and pain relief), the second inhibits platelet aggregation (moving blood). Together they form the material basis of 'nourish the blood, move the blood.'

Ca²⁺ antagonism → uterine smooth muscle relaxes → menstrual cramps ease. Peripheral vessels dilate → circulation at the extremities ↑ → limbs warm (the answer to the icy hands and feet of Danggui Sini Tang). Highly volatile — do not decoct for long.
The hematology behind 'nourishing the blood': ferulic acid promotes hematopoietic stem-cell proliferation, and danggui polysaccharides stimulate erythropoietin secretion — together they raise red-blood-cell production. 'Nourish the blood' is not a metaphor; it is a measurable improvement in blood-building function.
